WIFA Women’s Inter District Football Tournament. Mumbai and defending Champions Nagpur knocked out of tournament.

Favorites Mumbai and the defending champions Nagpur knocked out of tournament by Gondia and Buldhana respectively, while Pune and Kolhapur comfortably entered semis.

Kolhapur (Pratiksha Mithari 19’, 25’, Sanika Chaugule 40’) 3-0 Amravati
In the Kolhapur’s attacking game strategy helped them to take the lead in the opening game vs Amravati. A cross from the left flank was converted it into beautiful goal by Pratiksha. Within the difference of 6 minutes Kolhapur got an opportunity in the form of penalty. Pratiksha Mithari converted the penalty to double the lead. Sarika Chaugale adding one more goal late in the game to beat Amravati with 3-0 win.

Pune (Pooja Waghire 9’, 38’, Murial Adam 20’, Ritu Francis 35’, 42’) 5 – 0 Thane
Pune’s excellent attack put them in the strong position with 2 goals in the first half scored by Pooja Waghire, Murial Adam. Pune was unstoppable in the entire game. They continued their attacks and managed to add 3 more goals in the second half. A brace each from Ritu and Pooja helped Pune to beat Thane. Pune entered semis beating Thane with 5-0 win.

Buldhana (Aishwarya Bhonde 24’) 1-0 Nagpur
Match started with good attacking moves from Buldhana side. They started attacking right from the beginning of the game. Though Buldhana’s attacks were stopped by Nagpur’s rock solid defense, Buldhana managed to take lead just before the first half with Aishwarya Bhonde’s powerful volley from center of the box found the back of the net. Buldhana were impressive in attacks taking the lead in first half while in second half they defended well to hold the lead. Buldhana entered the Semifinals with 1-0 win.

Mumbai 0(5)-0(6) Gondia
(Gondia won in Penalty)
Mumbai started with attaching strategy right from the very beginning of the game. Gondia were brilliant in defense as their goalkeeper Khushboo did not allow Mumbai to find a breakthrough. Mumbai were close to scoring a goal on number of times but Gondia’s keeper Khushboo came out with numerous save to deny them. Meanwhile Gondia were successful in stretching the game to Penalty shootout. In penalty shootout, both the team’s goalkeeper saved two attempts and stretched the game to sudden death. In the 10th attempt of penalty shootout, Mumbai’s kick taker shot the ball wide, while Gondia’s Ranu converted her attempt to take the team to Semifinals.
