Seven star Bodyline SC sinks United Poona SA

24th June 2017: In the second match of Group A – WIFA (Western India Football Association) Women’s Championship, Bodyline SC produced a magnificent attacking display by thumping United Poona SA 7-0 at Cooperage Stadium to start their campaign on a positive note.

United Poona SA who came into this match on the back of a 3-2 victory against Podar International yesterday, couldn’t match Bodyline’s brilliance and had to suffer a major setback which can turn out to be fatal in the race to qualify for the semis.

Bodyline SC’s striker Karen Pais netted a fine hat-trick, followed by Reetika Sahani’s brace. Kimberley Fernandez and Juhi Shah also got on the scoresheet.

It took Karen just four minutes to open the scoring which allowed Bodyline SC to take control of the match proceedings and deliver a major blow to their counterpart.

United Poona SA could have leveled the score couple of minutes later when Aishwarya Balapure missed a glorious one-on-one chance after dancing past three Bodyline’s defenders.

In the 17th minute, Bodyline SC increased their lead by two goals after Juhi Shah set up Reetika Sahani whose shot got deflected in by UPSA’s defender Dattatrya Bhegade. Two minutes later, Aditi Shetty’s pinpoint pass found Karen who comfortably made it 3-0.

Just before the half-time, things got worse for United Poona SA as Kimberley Fernandez’s terrific strike made it 4-0 for the Mumbai-based club.

Five minutes into the second-half, Karen Pais completed her hat-trick with a sublime goal which made her the first player to register a hat-trick in WIFA Women’s Championship.

Bodyline’s midfield was all over the place. They comprehensively dominated the final third too which left UPSA helpless. The sixth goal came in the 42nd minute when Reetika’s close range effort found the back of the net.

In the closing stages of the match, Bodyline was awarded a penalty. Juhi Shah stepped up and scored the final and seventh goal to complete a fine victory over United Poona SA.
