Pathan shocks defending Champions Services, as Maharashtra win 1-0

Shabaz Pathan scored twice in as many matches to secure two wins for the Maharashtra boys sit pretty at top of Group A.

The first 15 minutes of the match was all one way traffic as Services attacked form the word go. Maharashtra’s defense stood strong and averted danger. Slowly but steadily Maharashtra saw more of the ball and started to attack from the wing. Despite the flurry of chances on both the ends, the half ended 0-0.

Maharashtra gaffer Irenio Vaz made a couple of changes; dropping Allan Dias to the back line and replaced Abhishek Ambekar with Sushant Bhivgude in the Mid field. With this tactical change Maharashtra got back into the groove and deep into the second half, identical to the first match Maharashtra got the winner. Preneel Mandal delivered an inch perfect cross from the corner to the first post. Super-sub Sushant flicked the ball which was headed in by the on rushing Shabaz Pathan who caught the defence napping.

With this win Maharashtra top the table with 6 points form 2 matches. Next up they will meet Mizoram on 28th February.
