Mumbai to face Pune in Sub-Junior Girls’ Final

13th February 2018, Jalgaon: The Inter-District State Sub-Junior Girls Championship is set to conclude tomorrow when Mumbai District will take on Pune District in a mouth-watering final at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Stadium in Jalgaon. Earlier today, Pune District defeated Kolhapur District and Mumbai District romped to victory against Solapur in the semi-finals to set up a date in the final.

1st Semi-Final: Pune (Poorva Gaikwad 3rd min, Swara Pathak 17′ and Karanti More 54′) 3-1 Kolhapur  (Samruddhi Kotkale 54′)

In the first semi-final, a gritty Kolhapur side gave a tough fight to Pune but eventually ended up being at the receiving end after suffering a 3-1 defeat. Poorva Gaikwad opened the scoring in the 3rd minute for Pune before Swara Pathak’s curling free-kick doubled Pune’s lead inside the first twenty minutes.

Star forward Samruddhi Kotkale pulled a goal back for Kolhapur but Pune responded just a minute later through Karanti More’s goal which turned out to be the final nail in the coffin.

2nd Semi-Final: Mumbai (Bhumika Mane 5′, Jhanvi Shetty 6′ & 17′, Christine Nazareth 20′, Sai Sankhe 33′ & 36′, Riddhi Mehra 38′ and Priyanka Suyesh 52′) 8-0 Solapur

The second semi-final was a one-sided affair. Mumbai District left no stones unturned as they romped to an 8-0 win against Solapur to qualify for the final. Jhanvi Shetty and player of the match Sai Sankhe bagged two goals each in either half to put Mumbai in a commanding position.

Bhumika Mane’s fifth-minute strike and Christine Nazareth’s twentieth-minute goal was the highlight of the first-half. In the second-half, besides Sai’s two goals, Riddhi Mehra and Priyanka Suyesh grabbed a goal each to complete a fine victory.
