Maharashtra finish as Runners-up in U14 National Championship

Manipur defeated Maharashtra in the finals of the AIFF U14 National Championship held at Kalyani on Sunday.

Maharashtra put in a string of good performances and results to get into the final. They scored a total of 19 goals on their way to the final and conceded only three.

They took on a Manipur team who they had already played in the Quarter Finals. That game between the teams finished 0-0.

The final would definitely not end as a stalemate and it did not disappoint. Maharashtra got the goal in the 1st minute with Kamran finishing from close range.

Thereafter, Manipur kept applying pressure and managed to get the equalizer in the 16th minute thanks to N Dhruba Singh. The score remained level at half time.

Maharashtra continued to attack in the second half but it was Dhruba Singh who managed to slot one past the keeper and give Manipur the lead in the 56th minute.

He completed his hat trick in the 65th minute to seal the win for the Manipur team.

“We put in a lot of effort and gave them a tough game. The boys have played brilliantly this entire tournament and I am very proud of them. We would have loved to win the tournament but we can take pride in the performance of the team.” said coach Augusto on finishing up as Runners-up in the tournament.
