Maharashtra defeat Delhi, enter Quarter finals

Maharashtra took on Delhi in their second game of the U14 National Championship in Kalyani today.
Both teams needed a win to secure qualification from Cluster VI and qualify for the quarter final stage.

Maharashtra and Delhi had both earlier defeated Jharkhand 5-1 and 6-0 respectively. This game promised to have a lot of goals in it.

The match started off lively with Kamran Ansari latching onto a pass from Pranav Kanse and slotting it home to give Maharashtra the lead in the 2nd minute.  He then got his second goal eight minutes later when he curled in a free kick from 30 yards out.

They continued to dominate possession and the defenders kept a check on Delhi’s attackers throughout the game. Krish Parekh had an exceptional game in defense and kept the attackers at bay.

Maharashtra ended up playing the last few minutes with ten men as they had made all their substitutions and Krish Parekh couldn’t carry on due to injury. This enabled the Delhi team to pull one back in the 90th minute with Dasgupta getting on the scoresheet.

Coach Augusto was happy with the team’s performance. “We played well and stuck to our game plan. Kamran, Clivert and Krish had excellent games and the team defended very well. We were unlucky to concede a goal towards the end of the game.”

Maharashtra will play their first game in the Quarter final stage tomorrow.
