Maharashtra begin with a win! with a 3-2 victory over Uttarakhand in the first match of Group B in the Final Round of Santosh Trophy 2014.

Maharashtra conceded against the run off play to the surprise of everyone, Uttarakhand led 1-0 by the 18th min.

Maharashtra pressed hard and equalized with knitting a string of passes and the final ball delivered by winger Santosh Kolhi and headed in by Allan Dias. Score 1-1

Deep into the half Maharashtra got a deserved lead as Shabaz Pathan starred in front of the goal with a sublime finish. 42nd min Maharashtra led 2-1

The second half started brightly for the Maharashtra boys as got chances thick and fast but the strikers failed to put it at the back of the net. 69th min Uttarakhand won a penalty as Santosh kohli was pulled back for a hand ball. Uttarakhand converted and the match was level.

Late in the 87th min Maharashtra won a corner, as Pranel Mendon delivered and inch perfect cross for Santosh Kolhi to convert.

Ft: 3-2 Maharashtra win the opener!

Santosh Kolhi the man in the thick of the action today, ‘was gutted when we conceded the penalty. But we believed in each other got the winner!. Feeling relieved!.
