Jammu and Kashmir hold Mohammedan 1-1 in normal time, win on penalties

It doesn’t seem to be a good start to pre-season for the fallen Kolkata giants Mohammedan Sporting. In a friendly “Goodwill Football Match” organized by the central government, Jammu and Kashmir state defeated Mohammedan Sporting 5-2.  Mohammedan, a potentially strong team  should have done better.

From the very beginning, the home team tried to get past the Mohammedan defence and did so quite successfully.Taking an advantage of a one goal lead into half-time, Jammu and Kashmir failed to maintain that advantage as Mohammedan equalised in the second half via a penalty.

In the tie-breaker Jammu scored 4 goals while the Kolkata club managed to convert only a single goal.

A huge Jammu and Kashmir crowd gathered to encourage their local team, which did not let them down. The Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Mr. Omar Abdullah, along with some other well-known personages were present. They praised the central government’s effort towards improving soccer in India. Omar Abdullah later handed out the prizes to both teams.
