India at the SAFF Cup

As India look set to begin their campaign in the 2011 SAFF Cup we take

a look at their performance in the past few editions. India are the defending Champions and have won the Trophy a record 5 times.

1993 – Winners – India (League format) , Runner up – Sri Lanka
1995 – Winners – Sri Lanka, Runner up – India
1997 – Winners – India, Runner up – Maldives
1999 – Winners – India, Runner up – Bangladesh
2003 – Winners – Bangladesh, Runner up – Maldives (India finished third)
2005 – Winners – India, Runner up – Bangladesh
2008 – Winners – Maldives, Runner up – India
2009 – Winners – India, Runner up – Maldives

The SAFF Football Championship is scheduled to be played at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, New Delhi, from December 2-11, 2011. India has been clubbed in Group A along with Sri Lanka, Bhutan, and Afghanistan. India is slated to play their first match against Afghanistan on December 3.
