Day 1 of Inter-district Championship for Sub-Junior boys in Nanded

The first day of the Maharashtra Inter-district Championship for Sub-Junior boys kicked off in Nanded at the Nanded District Football Association Ground.

The tournament is being conducted by the Western India Football Association and will see a host of district-level teams participate from across the state of Maharashtra.

Day 1 saw three matches held at the NDFA Ground which saw Osmanabad, Kolhapur, Jalgaon, Buldhana, Bhandara and Parbhani clash. Another match had been scheduled between Satara and Nandurbar but the Satara team was disqualified due to document issues and Nandurbar were given the bye.

The day’s action began with Kolhapur DFA taking on Osmanabad DFA which was a highly one-sided affair. Kolhapur put six past Osmanabad as they ran riot on their opponents. An interesting fact was that Kolhapur had six different goalscorers.

The second match of the day was a one-sided affair as the Jalgaon DFA team beat Buldhana DFA with a mammoth 7-0 scoreline. Jalgaon took an early lead in the third minute with a strike by Vedant Dhande. They tripled their advantage within ten minutes as they were 3-0 up. The second saw four goals conceded within a space of three minutes as Sheik Kaif, Altamash Khan, and Vedant Dhande completed their braces.

Final: Jalgaon DFA 7 – 0 Buldhana DFA (Vedant Dhande (2), Altamash Khan (2), Sheikh Kaif(2), Utkarsh Chowdhary)

The final match of the day was an all-around exciting affair with Bhandara DFA taking on Parbhani DFA. The side from Parbhani took the lead when Mohd Shayan scored after a great move. Bhandara rallied back to equalise in the second half and forced the match into penalties.

The young lads from Bhandara held their nerves as they emerged the winner in the sudden death after the first five penalties saw the sides tied at 3-3.
