We want to be ‘CHAMPIONS’

Maharashtra State Football Team embarks on their journey for glory in the 71st Santosh Trophy being held at Goa from the 12th to 26th March 2017.

They say heartbreak at the final stage makes you stronger and fight harder to make the dream come true. We will be back stronger and better we said, announcing the title challenge in the Qualifying round with Gujarat and Rajasthan comprehensively beaten without conceding a single goal yet the criticism was never ending. The coach wasn’t happy, he wanted more. The players weren’t happy, they wanted more from themselves.

‘You need to gel the experience with youth to succeed’, the motto for Maharashtra. With a new directive from AIFF making it mandatory for FIVE U-21 players in the squad and THREE in the line-up, the scouting network widened. Key players from last year getting contracts at big I-League teams and new players coming in meant a change in approach. ‘We will pick the best squad for the Final Round’ said the coach. In came 4 new players. TWO players instrumental in the title challenge last year and TWO wanting to prove themselves on the big stage.

With stage set for the Finals & Maharashtra team raring to go, a spectacle is on the horizon. Every match as important as the last, old foes will look for upsets. Hard work, perseverance, dedication and a strong will keeps us grounded & our aims in sight. We know what’s required and what CHAMPIONS are made of.
