New referees’ recruitment course conducted @ Jalna

A two day intensive course conducted at Jalna for recruiting new referees for the districts of Marathwada Region and Many more to cover different parts of Maharashtra!

The 2 day course was on 24th and 25th August 2014 at Jalna. The coursed all the aspects of the game including the Referees’ fitness test which one of the most important criteria moving forward. The course registered 22 participants form various district like Parbhani, Jalna, Beed, Hingoli, Osmanabad, Latur and Nanded. The instructors for the course were Mr. Dhanraj More and Mr. Walter Pereira.

After the completion of the course the participants have to officiate 30 matches after which there will be a Referees Examination. Post which the successful candidates will be awarded the Referee’s Badge.

Western India Football Association (WIFA) has implemented the All India Football Association’s (AIFF) Refereeing structure for states. WIFA has put in place the Referees’ Board whose members are as follows: Walter Pereira (Chairman), J. P. Singh, Dhanraj More (Convener), Siddharth Gade, Stanley Gregory, Rajendra Dalvi, Souter Vaz and Henry Menezes.

WIFA Referees’ Board is ready with a new calendar to conduct recruitment courses and conduct tests throughout the year in line with AIFF’s Referees’ calendar.

‘The current focus of the board is to conduct as many recruitment classes as possible with a pan Maharashtra focus. This will enable the board to pump in as many fresh referees into the system’, informed Mr. Walter Pereira. ‘We have already finished a course in Cooperage, Mumbai for the referees of Mumbai and Thane district. We had 22 candidates in the course which is a very encouraging figure given the short notice. In the coming months we are conducting 5 more courses for new referees’ recruitment across Maharashtra’, said Mr. Pereira.

The referees’ Board alike the parent body have stuck to the plan of dividing Maharashtra into 6 regions and work within the parent body’s framework.
