WIFA to conduct interactive workshop on Golden Baby Leagues

Western India Football Association is conducting an interactive workshop on Golden Baby Leagues at Cooperage Stadium, Mumbai on 31st August 2019.

*AIFF Golden Baby Leagues Manager – Mr. Deepak Nayak will be Chief Speaker. * He will be speaking about the important changes made in this year’s rules and regulations of the leagues. This workshop will be a great help in understanding the rules and regulations of the league.

Baby Leagues throughout the world have proven to be a stepping stone towards building a strong footballing foundation. With more match time, the young players are bound to bear fruits from the experience of playing in such competitive yet fun leagues.

Referees seminar conducted by WIFA on 17th and 18th August

WIFA conducted a ‘Referees Seminar’ on 17th and 18th of August 2019. More than 80 referees turned up from across various districts of Maharashtra. Training and Refresher course was conducted by Ex-FIFA referee & AIFF Referees’ Instructor Mr Anthony D’costa. Mr D’costa was assisted by WIFA referees Walter Pereira, Rajendra Sawant, Dhanraj More and few others. There were practical as well as theory session held as the visiting referees were given the latest updates. Below is the list of referees who attended the Seminar:

Patel, Vaz retain posts; Thackeray elected VP

Mumbai, August 23: Praful Patel of Gondia District and Souter Vaz of Mumbai District retained their posts as President and Hon. Secretary of Western India Football Association (WIFA).

They were both elected unopposed during the 70th Ordinary General Meeting of WIFA, held in Nagpur on Friday. Pyarelal Chaudhary of Poona District retained the Hon. Treasurer’s position.

Meanwhile, MDFA President, Aditya Thackeray and Parth Jindal of Palghar District, made their maiden entry into the WIFA Executive Committee as they were both elected unopposed as one of the five Vice-Presidents. Maharajkumar Malojiraje Chhatrapati, Haresh K. Vora and Dr. Vishwajit Patangrao Kadam, were all re-elected as the other three Vice-Presidents.

Sushil Kumar Surve (Amravati), Salim Parkote (Latur) and Prof. Kiran Chougle (Solapur) were elected as the three Assistant Secretaries. The OGM also elected 13 members to the Managing Committee.

The elected committee will serve a four-year term.

NMSA FC emerge champions of inaugural edition of the Thane District Football League

Navi Mumbai SA of Vashi defeated Kukri XI FC from Nerul 4-2 in the final of Thane District football league to lift the trophy

The inaugural edition of the Thane District Football league commenced in January this year after WIFA stepped in to form Ad-Hoc Committee.  The entire league is supported by the Western India Football Association – the governing body of football in Maharashtra.

The league was then held at Intra-District Championship level, to find the best teams. After successfully conducting the games at various locations all over the Thane district, the tournament entered its final stage where ten teams were divided into two groups. Four teams from the Navi Mumbai, four teams from Thane City and two teams from Kalyan – Ambernath fought it out on the pitch to conquer the ultimate championship.

In the semi-finals, NMSA played out a comfortable 3-0 win over Anjuman side from Thane while Kukri XI FC had to struggle hard to edge SP Football Academy on penalties after normal time resulted in to 2-2 scoreline.

In the final, NMSA took the early lead when Harsh Daya’s strike found the net in the 18th minute; Sahil Gharat made it 2-0 at the half hour mark. But just when it seemed, NMSA had the game in control, Kukri XI fought back with a goal from Ahtesham Munshi. Minutes before half time, Harsh Day completed his brace to restore the 2 goal lead.

In the second half, Kukri XI pushed forward in search of goals and were soon rewarded when Ahtesham Munshi struck his second of the day. However, Aditya Dhumal scored the fourth goal for NMSA to once again put them in driving seat. The match ended in 4-2 scoreline as the NMSA lifted the trophy.

India International Rahul Bheke and Nikhil Poojary were in presence among the spectator during the final.

WIFA – Hiranandani Hospital alliance offers economical medical expenses for footballers

Western India Football Association (WIFA) ties-up with Hiranandani Hospital to help sportspersons get discounted medical expenses.

Often times, injuries and the subsequent medical expenses has become a major disheartening factor for young footballers leading to many giving up the sport.

To quell this worry, WIFA has collaborated with one of the top hospitals of the city – Hiranandani Hospital, to provide city footballers struggling with injuries get discounted medical expenses. This initiatives aims at having city footballers get access to best medical treatments at reasonable prices.

Recently on 3rd of August, WIFA in collaboration with Hiranandani hospital had conducted a seminar on ‘Sports Injuries: Prevention, treatment & Rehabilitation’. Hiranandani CEO Sujit Chatterjee and his Doctors Ms. Richa Anand, Dr. Roli Dave, Dr. Austin Fernandes and Dr. Aditya Sai talked about various fitness related topics ranging from the importance of following proper diet, Rehab pointers, recovery process after injuries to assisting in comeback after suffering mental or physical setbacks that a footballers faces during his playing career.

Talking about the collaboration, WIFA CEO Henry Menezes stated, “The Hiranandani Sports Sciences center is well equipped for sports rehabilitation and a tie up with them will greatly benefit players in the region.”

WIFA initiate coach education to boost more district participation in football

WIFA has appointed Coach and instructor Jeddy Almeida to help and improve Coach Education in district football

Appointed by WIFA, Instructor and coach Jeddy Almeida, who coaches the U15 side of Mumbai City FC, has been given the responsibility of helping and improving the district coaches to drive in more participation in football.

Jeddy would be training the coaches, showing them how to setup an academy and help them in understanding that player development is important to achieving success.

Other responsibilities would include helping them creating more local tournaments and events and help the district and coaches improves its overall football atmosphere.

1st to 4th August – In Basmat, District Hingoli

6th to 9th August 2019 – In District Nanded

11th to 15th August 2019 – In Udgir, District Latur

Due to prior club commitments, Jeddy would be departing Nanded on 8th August 2019 after which Augusto D’silva would continue with the program.
